Congratulations to HP, the 2004 Winner of the Most Trusted Company for Privacy Award

Among the top ten companies voted by consumers as most trusted for privacy and recognized by experts to have good privacy programs were AOL, Charles Schwab, eBay, GE, Intuit, MSN, Nationwide, Verizon Communications, WebMD Health and Wachovia.

Are certain companies and brands more trusted than others to protect consumer’s privacy? Do experts agree with consumers about the companies they can trust?

The Most Trusted Companies for Privacy Study was conducted by TRUSTe and the Ponemon Institute to identify the top companies that are doing a superior job of building trust with customers through the establishment and enforcement of progressive privacy practices. The study polled more than 6,300 consumers, who ultimately identified eBay, Inc. as the Most Trusted Company.

Based on the results of the Study the Top 50 Most Trusted Companies named by consumers are offered an opportunity to submit a nomination form answering questions regarding their commitment to privacy. A panel of privacy experts then reviewed the nominations to select the companies whose practices deserved acknowledgement awarded in the consumer study. Essentially the Most Trusted Company for Privacy Award attempte to map consumer trust to actual privacy-related programs implemented by the top companies listed across various industries.

The panel then graded each of the companies on their efforts to map their policies with the consumer rankings to ultimately identify the 2004 Most Trusted Company.
