New TRUSTe E-Newsletter Teaches Consumers About Privacy

TRUSTe is pleased to announce the launch of The TRUSTe Watchdog, a quarterly email newsletter for consumers!

The newsletter, which is designed to teach consumers Internet-privacy fundamentals, is sent to subscribers who sign up either through the TRUSTe Web page or the Watchdog Dispute Resolution form. Each issue will contain the following types of articles, written in jargon-light language:

  • Tips on protecting their personal information
  • Definitions of common privacy terms
  • Updates on what TRUSTe is doing and how it affects consumers
  • Profiles of organizations and people working to protect Internet privacy
  • Special advice for parents

In addition, every issue will contain one or two short “features” addressing consumer-education campaigns, describing common privacy concerns, and discussing legislative issues.

The inaugural issue is scheduled to be sent out in late April 2006. To read issues online or sign up for the mailing list, visit www.truste.org/consumers/index.php.

The aim of The TRUSTe Watchdog is to raise public awareness of privacy issues and increase the visibility of the work TRUSTe does. Here’s how you can use the newsletter to increase the value of your TRUSTe seals:

  • Advertise the newsletter on your Web site or in member communications
  • Send a promotional issue of the consumer newsletter to your mailing lists.
  • Write a feature!

If your organization is interested in contributing to the TRUSTe Watchdog or simply learning more about the publication, contact Krystal Putman, Marketing Manager, at kputman@truste.org.
