TRUSTe - Make Privacy Your Choice

May 2005 Tech Tip

Tip: Verify that your Web site is using the most updated links to your validation page and to TRUSTe's Watchdog Dispute Resolution program complaint form.

TRUSTe has made improvements to its internal databases. As a result, the URL to TRUSTe’s Watchdog Dispute Resolution program page has changed, along with the URL format for TRUSTe’s “Click to Verify” seal.

Please update your privacy statement with the current URL for TRUSTe’s Watchdog program: http://www.truste.org/consumers/watchdog_complaint.php.

In addition, the TRUSTe “Click to Verify” seal that is on your privacy statement should no longer link to https://www.truste.org/validate/12345. This format is no longer valid and will display a “Not Verified” message on your site’s validation page if your site is still using this format. Please link the circular TRUSTe “Click to Verify” seal (clicksealbox.gif) on your site’s privacy statement to http://www.truste.org/ivalidate.php?url=www.mydomain.com&sealid=XXX, tailoring the “mydomain.com” and “XXX” to your site. For example, if your site is certified under the TRUSTe privacy Web seal, the seal ID is 101, and the URL will be http://www.truste.org/ivalidate.php?url=www.mydomain.com&sealid=101. Note that the URL format has changed from a secured “https” format to an “http” format.

Other TRUSTe seal programs, such as the EU Safe Harbor seal, the children’s seal, and the eHealth seal, have different seal ID numbers. If your site is certified under one of these programs, please contact your TRUSTe account manager for the ID number.

Joanne Furtsch is a senior account manager at TRUSTe.
