Departures and Arrivals on the TRUSTe Board of Directors
| Departures and Arrivals on the TRUSTe Board of Directors January brought a number of significant changes to the membership of the TRUSTe Board of Directors. This month, we saw the departure of three members: John Berard, managing director of the Zeno Group; Jill Lesser, senior policy advisor at Time Warner; and Lori Fena, project director of the Aspen Institute Internet Policy Project and the founder and chair emeritus of TRUSTe. We are so grateful to all three for their many years of service on the board and for their significant contribution to the organization. Replacing John, Jill, and Lori are three new members who bring fresh industry experience that will further TRUSTe’s privacy initiatives as the organization prepares for its next phase of growth: Camille Busette is the group manager of the corporate privacy team for Intuit, a leading provider of business and financial management solutions for small- and mid-sized businesses. Busette is responsible for providing the public policy, strategic, and tactical leadership of the privacy function at Intuit. Jean-Paul Hepp is the director of privacy and corporate privacy officer for Pfizer. During his career, Hepp has experienced several different aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, first working for Pfizer and Upjohn in the Benelux area, then joining the corporate headquarters of Pharmacia, where he designed and led Pharmacia’s Corporate Internet Strategy for four years. Hepp holds a doctorate in biology from the University of Antwerp. Tatiana Platt is the chief trust officer and senior vice president for America Online. She oversees the integrity of the user experience, consumer protection, privacy, online safety, accessibility, community standards and policy for all of AOL’s brands. Platt has spearheaded initiatives to ensure AOL-owned Web sites include updated privacy and safety elements. In addition, longtime board member Richard Purcell, founder of Corporate Privacy Group, will become chair of the board, succeeding two-time chair Christine Varney, a partner at Hogan & Hartson and former Federal Trade Commissioner. All of TRUSTe’s board members bring valuable experience, diverse backgrounds, and important insight to the issue of privacy to the organization.
